Hi! My name is Deb. I’m a 47 year-old wife and mother of two teenagers – a boy and a girl. We live outside of Baltimore, MD. I’m a teacher and am finishing my 25th year. I can’t believe I’ve been teaching for that long and I still really love it.
I’ve never really exercised. In high school, I was a cheerleader and didn’t realize how
much aerobic exercise I was getting.
As, I got older and the weight started creeping on as it does, I
controlled my weight with diet.
When I turned 40, I decided that I want to run a 5k (bucket
list). I trained and did a St.
Patrick’s Day 5k and ran it with my sister-in-law.
My 2 goals were to run to the whole time and not to be last. I met both goals and ran it in about 35
minutes. I ran another 5k and then
began running on and off. In
January 2013, I thought I should do another 5k. I suggested the Color Run to some girls at work. They signed up and so did I. Now I was committed. I ran that in 31.04 (my time- it’s an
untimed raced). I signed up for more races and was getting serious. I ran 5 miles for the first time that
summer and the next day sprained my ankle. I spent the rest of summer recovering. I asked my husband if he’d run a 5k
with me. He said YES!! We’ve been running together ever since. We just ran the Cherry Blossom 10 miler for the first time and are getting ready for our second 1/2 marathon.
